Río Pilcomayo

El río Pilcomayo es un actor central en el corazón del Gran Chaco Americano, atravesando una extensa región transfronteriza compartida por Bolivia, Paraguay y Argentina. Con una longitud superior a los 1.000 km, se destaca a nivel mundial por su extraordinaria carga de sedimentos (limo).

Esta característica provoca que el Pilcomayo llene de sedimentos permanentemente su propio cauce, generando cambios continuos en su recorrido y frecuentes desbordes que reconfiguran el paisaje y las dinámicas socioambientales de la región.

The Pilcomayo River is a central feature in the heart of the Gran Chaco Americano, flowing through an extensive transboundary region shared by Bolivia, Paraguay, and Argentina. Stretching over 1,000 km, it is globally recognized for its exceptionally high sediment load (silt).

This characteristic causes the Pilcomayo to continuously fill its own channel with sediments, leading to constant shifts in its course and frequent overflows that reshape the landscape and the region’s socio-environmental dynamics.
